What was your favorite candy as a child?

I have no recollections at all about having a favorite candy. My childhood years were impacted by food rationing and that included candies or sweets as we used to call them. It wasn't until 1952 or 1953 that sweets started to become available off ration. Up to then the rations for them were varied but usually were about eight ounces a month.

The catch was that they were not always available and you certainly had little or no choice. I do remember that my mother would make fudge at Christmas time having hoarded some of the family's sugar ration over the course of the year. Later on in the 1950s my father would visit the Stafford shop on a Friday and would bring home some sweets from the sweet shop next door. Smarties were my favourite and would be counted out colour by colour between me and my brother.

If there any odd ones left over then my Dad would eat them to avoid any arguments between us.
