When did you get your first car?

I think that it was in 1962. I turned 21 in that year which was when one was legally recognized as an adult. It was a big celebration and there were very generous gifts of money from my parents and my grandmother, little Nana. So, with my rather meagre savings and new found wealth I bought my first car, a Morris Mini.

I think that it cost about 550 pounds, though I did have some customizing done to it, a sliding sun roof I do remember. The car was a dark blue in colour. As a vehicle it was very radical as the engine was transverse rather than in line and it was a front wheel drive. It was a great car and I cannot remember why I got rid of it but I replaced it with a Hillman Imp that had the engine in the back and was a rear wheel drive.

Loved them both.
