As a child were you closer to your father or your mother how about now
It's hard to find a definitive answer to that one. As a young child you inevitably spend more time with our mother, so there is a closeness there. That said, Mum always said, much later in life, that we were very lucky as children because dad spent much more time with us than was expected of Dads back then. I was a second child and grew up being told I was a 'Currie' Sheila was the 'Walker', Mum's family.
The implication was that I was more like my dad, and I was always told that I was a 'daddy's girl'. I was also very independant from the start, even as a toddler and whether that affected the perception of 'closeness' I don't know.Hard to say... In later years, after I had my own family, I would say that I was closer to Mum. Dad's health declined and he became quite cranky, and didn't have a lot of patience with the children, tho' I was devastated when he died suddenly.
As Mum aged I did spend more quality time with her when I was able to visit, distance of course made that a challenge. Mum wrote to me twice a week after I came to Canada and, in later years, once a week right up until she was quite unwell...and I wrote back, so I think we did have a strong ongoing relationship. I was very blessed to have parents who were such a happy couple all their married life and who gave us such stability as a family.
