Do you believe in a higher power?

I’ve had a bit of time to think about this one, which hasn’t really made it any clearer …… A higher power? if we are talking about ’God’ in the traditional sense that we were brought up to believe in …. the all seeing, all knowing deity who sits in ‘heaven’ and who is described as the father of Jesus Christ… then I think I would have to say ‘no’ - without getting into a deep discussion about specific belief in Christ and Christianity and the Christian religion.

If we are talking about the apparent need for people, of all nations, societies and cultures over all the years to subscribe to a belief system that is common to their particular way of life, then I think I would have to agree to a qualified ‘yes’. We live in an age which is increasingly dependant on technology and which demands scientific explanation, cause and effect yet at the end of the day there are still some things which cannot yet be understood in their entirety.

I think this is where the acceptance of or belief in a ‘higher power’ must fit in, 'agnostic atheism’ covers it! I believe in the wonders of the world we live in and beyond, and in our ability and responsibility to share these things. Will that do?
