How did you meet your spouse when did you know you wanted to marry them?

I am sure you have heard this story before........ Ann, the girl I came to Canada with, and I were going on a camping weekend to Deception Pass in Washingtonat the end of July in 1969, with a friend we worked with and her boyfriend who had organised it all, gear and tents and everything. He drove a VW 'bug' and had drummed up a friend with a car. We all met at our apartment on West 12th Avenue in Vancouver and Ann & I went with this Jim Burslem in his shiny red convertible 1967 Mustang.... impressed? surely!

We set off and drove down over the border and rendezvous' d at Shakey's Pizza Parlour in Bellingham. I guess we ate too much pizza and drank too much beer because by the time we decided we should head south, when we reached the campsite the gates were locked! So we had to find a spot to put up a tent in the dark and ended up in a road crew lay by with heaps of gravel and had to tie guy ropes ( those old tents) to car bumpers etc for them to stay upright.

We only managed to put up one tent in this makeshift fashion. We made it to the campsite the next day and put up more tents we HAD planned to have separate 'girls' and boy's tents... those were the 60's you know....... Anyways we had a good weekend, went to a folk festival in Anacotes, made fires,cooked marshmallows...all the usual....... and that was where I met Jim for the firt time... and can say in all honesty that we slept together the night we met!
