What does veterans day mean to you?

Veteran's Day means remembering the sacrifices men & women and their familied have made in the name of working towards a world that is a better place for us all and, more preciously, for our children and grandchildren to grow up in. World War! and World War 2 are the two major conflicts which are imprinted for me. Word War 2 was always just 'the war', as if it was the only one which had ever been, it was so fresh in the minds of our generation - with all it's attendant horrors and deprivation - but it could just as easily be the recurrent theme in Korea or Vienam or Iraq or Afghanistan.

Young people take the military calling and they, as well as their families, pay the price. Since the trip that Dad & I took to Northern France at the beginning of this year, I am even more cognisant of the conficts that end in war and of the horrible, ugly waste that ensues. Veteran's Day is a day for us to recognise and to remember those losses and to pay our respect.
