What stories have you been told about yourself as a baby?

Well, I know I wasn’t an easy baby…… Mum said I refused to breast feed and she had to switch me onto a bottle. How much that was to do with the mores of the times I don’t know, but I know that when I breast fed my babies she was ready to help with bottles, because 'you knew how much the baby was getting’. Later on I guess, Dad said he spent many a night walking the floor with me and on more than one sleepless night with me in his arms looked down out of the fourth floor window of our apartment in Glasgow…..frustratingly, apparently as soon as he went to work in the morning, I would pass out in my pram and sleep soundly.

As a toddler I was very independant and did not like help. One of my first phrases was I am told, ‘Do it n’own self’. I know I used to cry hysterically when my Dad went for a swim when we were on holiday in Carnoustie, and carried on until he came back up the beach again. I was always told that I was a ‘daddy’s girl’ I was a very bald baby and didn’t have much hair untilI was more than two.

Mum said she got tired of correcting people when they told her what a lovley little boy she had…….. More than that I would have to glean from our old photos.
