What was your first car?

I am pretty sure I have answered this before in another post…. but it was a Ford Popular circa 1955, like the picture below, but it was a light brown colour. I bought it in about 1965 from the uncle of a medical student friend when I had some money from my Grandpa Walker’s estate. It cost me thirty pounds and I used to roar around London and drive my self to college every day in it. It had three gears plus reverse, no heater - so was perishing cold in the winter.

Petrol, I remember, cost four shillings and ninepence a gallon and I used to buy it a gallon at a time! It was sometimes a bit flaky and my brother used to keep it in good running order for me. He showed me how to adjust the carburetor with my nail file! The old fox fur which I bought at a church rummage sale and which I still have, used to lie across the back window - it also wore a pair of John Lennon glasses that I bought at the same time, I thought that was pretty cool:-) I still had it when I worked in Edinburgh and it finally died on the A1 on one trip back south when it stalled very time I slowed down for traffic lights… that was not a good journey.

My Dad and brother had to come and pick me up somewhere north of London in the middle of the night whe it finally gave up the ghost. I left it at my parent’s house when I came to Canada and have no idea what happened to it.
