What is one of your favorite childrens stories?

Two parts to this one... firstly the story that I most enjoyed reading to all of you as pre readers would be a close call between 'Jack & Nancy' by Quentin Blake and ' Why are there more questions than answers Grandpa' by Kenneth Mahood. Both books take the reader into slightly wacky fantasy worlds, but are just on the edge of believeable and have a satisfying conclusion. They have marvellous illustrations and as Libby says: 'you don't need to talk to read'.

A good reminder for an adult storyteller. If there is a memory of a book which I loved being read to me as a child it would either be Peter Pan by J M Barrie - the original, not the Disneyfied version that is circulated today. Or it might be 'The Water Babies' by Charles Kingsley -http://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Water-Babies,_A_Fairy_Tale_for_a_ Land_Baby. I have to say that the morals of the tale eluded me when I was small - I just enjoyed the fantasy of the story!
